Climate Change

The evidence is in. It is sobering and irrefutable. Our world is undergoing dramatic changes in weather patterns, in the intensity of storms, in the disappearance of glaciers and ice caps, and in rising temperatures and sea levels. Our deserts are expanding. People and animals are being displaced. Species are threatened. Global climate change is upon us and, according to the consensus of the world’s top scientists, human activity must shoulder the major share of culpability.

In one sense, this resonates positively.  If we caused the climate to warm, perhaps we can be as effective in turning this phenomenon around.  Will significant environmental change be the catalyst for real human change, where nations work together to ensure environmental health and integrity?  Could this empower people to cooperate in developing clean, plentiful, and renewable resources?  We think so, and we invite you to join with Earth Council Geneva to work toward the change so necessary not only for us, but for our children and our grandchildren.

In close partnership with UN organizations such as the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), ECG has already gained relevant experience and been successful in educating hundreds of international experts tasked with documenting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, a vital component of the Kyoto Protocol.  Raising the awareness and the accuracy of GHG emission measurements leads to increased governmental accountability and credibility, and results in more powerful and binding international treaties.  Positive pragmatic steps that lead to real and measurable changes.

Reducing greenhouse gas emissions is within our grasp.  The physical resources exist.  The technology exists, and can only become more advanced with focused attention and research.  If we link cutting-edge technology with imagination and education, if we reach out to significant numbers of people with the accessibility of the internet, we can make a difference in the future direction of humanity, and the environmental well-being of our planet Earth.  It has never been more clear that the time to act is now.

Earth Council e-Learning offers the only online courses on the market mechanisms of the Kyoto Protocol – Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), Joint Implementation (JI) and Emissions Trading.
